HOP ABOARD … COME CELEBRATE!
OVER 170 YEARS OF EDUCATION – 30 YEARS AT UNO
Thursday, February 28, 2013 6 pm – 7:30 pm Earl K. Long Library, UNO
You are invited to a Reception and Celebration to mark the 30th anniversary of the acquisition of the Orleans Parish School Board Records by the Louisiana and Special Collections Department of the Earl K. Long Library at the University of New Orleans.
Available to scholars and researchers since 1983, the vast collection documents the history of public education in New Orleans since 1841, from rare handwritten minutes of meetings in the 1800s to more contemporary documents of the city’s public schools. This collection of priceless material chronicles 170 years of education in New Orleans and is perhaps the largest of its kind in the United States. Educators, researchers, students, and the public are invited to the reception. The celebration will include a brief program, narrated displays, and an opportunity to learn more about this important collection.
